Forder Gardens was established by The Rt. Hon. Sir Harry Trelawney Eve, a Justice of the Peace for Devon, a barrister, and a Liberal Party politician.
Born in London, he was the only son of Thomas Eve, a Jamaican merchant. Sir Harry intended to build Forder Gardens as an estate for his own son. Tragically, his son was killed in action before the project could be completed.
As a result, the main estate house was never constructed. Only the estate's boundary walls, gatehouses, and the gardens—designed to supply fruit and vegetables—were finished
